The name CELAC-EU comes from the acronym: Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and the European Union, and refers to a mechanism that brings together 33 countries to promote the socioeconomic development of the region.
The first version of this summit was held in Santiago, Chile, in 2013, with subsequent versions held in 2015 and 2023. On April 9, 2025, Colombia assumed the Pro Tempore Presidency of CELAC for the 2025–2026 period, thereby establishing itself as the host of the fourth edition of the event, which will be held in Santa Marta on November 9 and 10.
