Barranquilla is officially ‘OECD mode’. This was announced by Mayor Alejandro Char through his account
on X (formerly Twitter), confirming that the city will host the Local Development Forum of the
OECD from July 8
to 11
, an unprecedented event in Latin America that marks a milestone in the
international projection of the capital of Atlántico.

“We are starting the business path for the OECD Local Development Forum! Barranquilla will be the
first city in Latin America to host this type of event. A unique recognition of 17 years of
transformation, with results that today stand out to the world,” wrote the district leader. Char
highlighted that more than 3,000 people from various nations, including the United States, Japan, France,
Nigeria, Germany, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina, will arrive in Barranquilla to learn
firsthand about the city’s progress in urban development, sustainability, innovation,
economy, and inclusion.
